eBay debuts Gretzky-inspired hockey NFT collection
E-commerce giant eBay released its first NFT collection in partnership with the world’s top hockey player, Wayne Gretzky. The NFTs feature 3D and animated versions of popular sports icons from the covers of Sports Illustrated magazine. Each NFT has a virtual Gretzky making signature hockey moves.
eBay collaborated with Web3 platform OneOf to create a collection of 13 sports-focused artworks. The NFT prices range from $10 to $1,500 and can be purchased directly through eBay with fiat currency.
In February, OneOf launched an NFT marketplace on Polygon and partnered with Sports Illustrated to launch a sports NFT series. In April, the Web3 company announced a partnership with MoonPay and is currently developing a Metaverse to commemorate The Notorious B.I.G.

Through our partnership with OneOf, eBay is now making coveted NFTs more accessible to a new generation of collectors everywhere. This builds upon our commitment to deliver high passion, high value items to the eBay community of buyers and sellers,” said Dawn Block, VP Collectibles, Electronics and Home at eBay.
According to the press release, eBay sought to create an NFT collection because of the increased interest in digital collectibles.
Despite that last year, the CEO of eBay, Jamie Iannone, said that the company was exploring cryptocurrency payments these NFTs will require a credit card to purchase. Ebay is the second-largest e-commerce company in the U.S. after Amazon, with around 159 million active users.
The NFTs from the top tiers (Gold, Platinum, and Diamond) are sold out. NFTs from nine Green-tier editions are still available.
