Disney chooses six accelerators focused on AR, NFTs, and AI for business development
The Walt Disney Company announced the participants of the 2022 Disney Accelerator program starting this week to focus on its “next-generation storytelling efforts.”
Disney chose six companies to drive business development focused on immersive experiences and advanced technologies, including AR, NFTs, and AI:
- Flickplay — a Web3 social platform that allows users to explore NFTs linked to real-life locations.
- Inworld — an AI developer platform for creating interactive characters for immersive metaverse environments.
- Lockerverse — a pre-revenue Web3 platform that allows creators and brands to tell stories and deliver experiences.
- Obsess — an e-commerce platform that creates interactive, highly engaging, and visually stunning virtual stores and showrooms for brands and companies.
- Polygon — a decentralized Ethereum scaling platform offering low transaction costs and strong security. Polygon is the only blockchain chosen for this program.
- Red 6 — an AR company and the creator of a patented headset and interface for high-performance and dynamic environments.
Participants will receive guidance from the company’s senior leadership team and will have an executive mentor.
“For nearly a century, Disney has been at the forefront of leveraging technology to build the entertainment experiences of the future. The Disney Accelerator is thrilled to be part of that legacy, and with our newest class of companies, we look forward to furthering our commitment to innovation and continuing to bring magical experiences to Disney audiences and guests for the next 100 years,” said Bonnie Rosen, General Manager of the Disney Accelerator program.
Following the news, Polygon’s cryptocurrency MATIC has surged by over 23% – from $0.5291 to $0.6516.
Last year, Disney released its first NFT collection on the VeVe platform to offer fans digital collectibles from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and many other beloved stories.
Last month, Walt Disney announced its expansion into the Metaverse and called it the “Next Generation Storytelling Creative Experiences at Disney.”
In March, the former CEO of Disney, Robert Iger, joined the board of Metaverse startup Genies, which is focused on creating Web3 avatars.
