YouTuber reveals even more Bored Ape Nazi imagery
On June 20, Twitter user Philion shared a video called “Bored Ape Nazi Club.” The film explains disturbing similarities between the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection and Nazi imagery.
Bored Ape Yacht Club, an NFT collection created by Yuga Labs, is currently one of the most well-known and successful projects. Its floor price is 92 ETH (approximately $103,500 at the moment of writing). Among BAYC owners are such celebrities as Snoop Dogg, Post Malone, Jimmy Fallon, and others.
YouTube fitness blogger Philion discovered Ryder Ripps’ research on BAYC half a year ago. He decided to join. “This is the result of hundreds of hours of research, investigative journalism, and insight from experts in the field of art and internet culture. This investigation started 6 months ago when I was first made aware of gordongoner.com,” says Philion’s channel.
In an hour of video sequences, Philion explains BAYC’s imagery and Nazi references behind it. More than that, he makes clear the origin of the creators’ nicknames, the racist traits of the artworks, and much more.
To make the video viral, Philion launched a dedicated hashtag on Twitter, “burnbayc.” It is already trending on Twitter.
Some Twitter users assumed that the video is a way to promote Ryder Ripps’ own BAYC collection. The artist created it a month ago to show the community that NFTs can be copied wholesale.
Meanwhile, Bored Ape Yacht Club is ready for Ape Festival, which takes place in New York City on June 20-23.
