Pika Labs Introduces Camera Control Feature, Keeping AI Video Pace with Runway

Pika Labs has introduced a camera control feature, similar to Runway’s, allowing users to manipulate the camera in various ways.
The -camera parameter allows users to zoom, pan, rotate, and fine-tune camera motion.
Pika Labs has swiftly rolled out a camera control feature shortly after Runway introduced a similar capability. This development is creating quite a buzz in the AI-generated video industry.
Pika’s camera control feature, denoted by the -camera parameter, offers users the ability to manipulate the camera in several ways:
- Zoom: Users can zoom in or out of the camera using the -camera zoom in/out command.
- Panning: The camera can be moved up, down, left, or right with the -camera pan up/down/left/right command. Users can combine two non-conflicting directions, such as -camera pan up right.
- Rotation: Users can rotate the camera in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction with -camera rotate clockwise/counterclockwise/anticlockwise or abbreviations cw/ccw/acw.
The degree of camera motion can be fine-tuned using the -motion XX parameter, with options ranging from 1 to 4.
In addition to this feature, Pika has made other updates, including setting the default frame rate (-fps) to 24 frames per second. Notably, the automatic “upvotes” channel is no longer available.
It’s worth noting the linguistic distinction between “anti-clockwise” in Britain and “counterclockwise” in America. Now, users are equipped with the knowledge to generate content with precision.
Generating videos on Discord with the Pika bot is a straightforward process. Users can initiate video generation either through direct communication with the bot or within designated #generate threads. Videos can be generated from text prompts or based on images. To insert an image, users can simply click next to the inserted tag on +1, then click on Upload to add it to the generation process.
Prompt parameters include:
- -gs xx (guidance scale, influencing the visual fidelity of the output).
- -neg “xxx” (negative prompt, specifying elements to be avoided in the frame).
- -hide (hide prompt).
- -ar xx:xx (aspect ratio options such as 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5).
- -seed xxx (ensures consistent generation by setting a seed number; seed information can be found in the downloaded video file name).
- -motion xx (controls the level of motion in the generated content, with values ranging from 0 to 4).
- -fps xx (sets the number of frames per second).
For those interested in animating images, the /animate command is available and functions both with prompts (added via +1) and without.
To expedite the generation process, users can utilize the “Repeat” feature. Keep in mind that there is a limit of 10 generations per 5 minutes. Users can change locations by clicking on the icon depicting intersecting roads.
- In 2022, Meta has introduced an AI system called Make-A-Video, which can generate full videos from written descriptions. The system allows users to provide a rough description of a scene and the system creates a short movie matching the text. The company warns that Make-A-Video has acquired societal biases and may exaggerate them. Although the videos are released in low quality, they represent a significant step forward in AI-assisted content creation.
