Spotify enters the Metaverse to bring new interactive experiences to the music world
Spotify partnered with Roblox to create Spotify Island — “a paradise of sound” or “sound oasis” for music artists and fans to interact in a gaming Metaverse.
Spotify is the first music streaming service in Roblox, an immersive and gaming-focused Metaverse built by developers and a global community of players. Roblox users can enter Spotify Island to complete quests, access exclusive digital merchandise, meet their favorite artists, and connect with other music fans to produce and explore music via the sound creation platform Soundtrap.
One of the activities on Roblox for Spotify listeners is climbing “The Charts” while earning points. Users will also have the opportunity to collect a heart-shaped “Like” icon, which can be exchanged for merch.
Spotify Island will have portals leading to music-genre-themed islands, which are still under development. However, the first island will feature K-pop and will be called K-Park. It will give fans a chance to interact with famous K-Pop artists Stray Kids and SUNMI.
“From the main Spotify Island, gamers will be able to portal out to the themed islands that will come to life throughout the year. These destinations will be filled with exclusive content, artist interactions, and themed mini-quests that are designed for both superfans and curious explorers. And this launch just scratches the surface when it comes to ways users can experience Spotify Island on Roblox,” Spotify wrote.
A few weeks after entering the Metaverse, Spotify announced it was implementing NFTs on its platform. The feature is in testing mode and aims to allow music artists to sell their limited-edition multimedia NFTs on Spotify.
