Nvidia Founder Urges Taiwan Graduates to Embrace the AI Revolution
In Brief
At the National Taiwan University (NTU) commencement ceremony, Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and CEO, delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the immense potential of artificial intelligence.
He encouraged the graduates to pursue their goals passionately, face failures, and seek help when needed.
Speaking at the commencement ceremony of National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei, Jensen Huang Jen-hsun, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, emphasized the tremendous potential of AI. Jensen Huang urged the graduating class to seize AI’s golden opportunities, recognizing its profound impact on every facet of business and industry.
Drawing attention to the remarkable advancements in AI, he encouraged 10,000 graduates to embark on their professional journeys embracing both unparalleled successes and inevitable setbacks along the way.
He mentioned that AI would create new job roles like data engineering, prompt engineering, AI factory operations, and AI safety engineers.
“In every way, this is a rebirth of the computer industry. And a golden opportunity for the companies of Taiwan… Just as I was with the PC and chip revolution, you’re at the beginning, at the starting line of AI. Every industry will be revolutionised,”
Jensen Huang said.
“Whatever it is, run after it like we did. Run. Don’t walk. Either you’re running for food, or you are running from being food,” he shared an inspiring message. “Remember, either you are running for food; or you are running from becoming food. And oftentimes, you can’t tell which. Either way, run.”
He encouraged students to “have the humility to confront failure, admit a mistake, and ask for help.”
Jensen Huang, who migrated from Taiwan in his youth, shared three stories of initial failures and retreats. He credited these experiences for shaping NVIDIA’s character during its three-decade journey from a small gaming graphics startup to a global AI leader worth nearly a trillion dollars.
Nvidia has emerged as the world’s most valuable chip company. Its chips have facilitated the integration of human-like chat features into search engines like Bing. This achievement can be attributed to the soaring demand for its highly sought-after products, including the H100 graphic processing units (GPUs), driven by the escalating interest in artificial intelligence. Jensen Huang’s speech followed the impressive financial performance of Nvidia, which recently reported a net profit exceeding $2 billion and sales of $7 billion in the first quarter of the 2024 financial year, surpassing industry expectations.
