Epic Games and LEGO Group Team Up to Build a Safe Metaverse

Gaming giant Epic Games has partnered with Danish toy manufacturer LEGO Group to develop a fun and safe metaverse for families with kids. The announcement follows KIRKBI’s $2 billion investment round in Epic Games. The investment is reportedly aimed at developing the companies’ metaverse initiatives.

KIRKBI’s LEGO Group and Epic Games are both known as leaders in the entertainment field. Epic Games is famous for its appealing virtual worlds, such as Fornite, Grand Theft Auto, and Rocket League. At the same time, LEGO is an established and well-known brand admired by individuals of all ages.

In April 2022, Sony and LEGO’s owner KIRKBI invested $2 billion into Epic Games to advance the development of the metaverse and support its continued growth. As the three companies aim to create a new way of social entertainment, they explore the connection between the digital and physical worlds. The collaboration between LEGO and Epic Games promises to enable virtual adventures that captivate and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for families.

As of today, the metaverse is seen as a dangerous space, especially for kids. So, family-friendly digital content is a step in the right direction in combating the fear of potential cyberbullying and exposure to inappropriate material.

Neither the LEGO Group nor Epic Games have shared additional details yet. However, we can expect the companies to introduce a joint initiative in the nearest future.

“We are doing a lot of things on the digital side. That is where we are upping the investment. We know very well how to immerse consumers into the Lego universe in stores. We’re working very hard to create that feeling of getting into the Lego brand universe also digitally,”

said Lego’s CEO, Niels Christiansen, in March of this year.

Well-known traditional brands continue stepping into the metaverse space. The collaboration between Epic Games and the LEGO Group represents a significant advancement in the creation of a long-anticipated kid-friendly metaverse.
