K-pop band Blackpink will perform in the first in-game virtual concert on PUBG Mobile
The Korean-pop girl band Blackpink announced a collaboration with the battle-royale multiplayer game PUBG Mobile to present their first virtual concert, “The Virtual.” Blackpink’s last album was released in 2020, so the announcement comes ahead of the band’s long-awaited comeback in August 2022. Blackpink will also mark its return with a special song and a new music video.
From PUBG’s game lobby, players can enter a concert game mode where they can’t lose or be expelled. Instead, they can listen to the music while earning experience points. The game doesn’t require any purchases. PUBG Mobile is free to download.
In addition, gamers will be able to choose outfits designed for the members of Blackpink and buy cosmetic elements for their avatars from July 23 to August 31.
The concerts will be held on July 22, 23, 29, and 30 in the Americas; July 23, 24, 30, and 31 in the rest of the world. The performances will last about 20 minutes, and fans can listen to the music any time and as many times as they want.
It’s the second collaboration between Blackpink and PUBG. In the first partnership, songs from the band’s first full-length album, “The Album,” were used as Battleground Mobile’s background music.
“We wanted to provide an opportunity for artists and fans to communicate more closely beyond borders and language barriers. As it is a special and interesting attempt, we hope that the fans can enjoy more of Blackpink’s charms through this virtual concert,” said Blackpink’s record company YG Entertainment.
Metaverse allows gaming platforms to provide fans with new experiences. Ariana Grande and Travis Scott have already performed in-game concerts in Fortnite, one of the world’s most popular video games. Last week, multiplayer game Free Fire announced a collaboration with Justin Bieber, who plans to perform on the platform soon.
