Facebook and Instagram integrate Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow NFTs for all users in the U.S.
In Brief
Meta has launched NFT support for all Facebook and Instagram users in the U.S.
Instagram first added NFT support in May, while Facebook integrated digital collectibles in June.
Millions of Instagram and Facebook users from the United States can now share digital collectibles, Meta announced. Users in over 100 countries (across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East) can also access the feature, sharing their NFTs on Instagram.
According to Meta, users can connect digital wallets from Dapper Labs, MetaMask, Rainbow, Trust, and Coinbase to share their NFTs on the two social media accounts. The platforms support NFTs minted on Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow blockchains, with Solana coming soon. Instagram users can also cross-post their digital collectibles to their Facebook profiles.
The tech company began testing NFTs in May and is slowly expanding and integrating the feature with a wider range of users. Since September 29, the NFT functionality has been available for all Instagram users in the U.S. In August, NFT support became available in 100 countries for selected users only. The first-ever NFT was posted on Instagram on May 11.
To post NFTs on Instagram or Facebook, users need to download updates to the latest versions of the social media apps. Then, install the chosen digital wallet on the phone, sign in to the app, and connect the wallet to the “digital collectibles” tab. After a notification opens on the phone screen, users need to enter the password for the wallet and confirm the wallet connection.
When one of the apps is connected to the digital wallet, the users can view their NFTs and share them on their personal feeds.
The NFTs on Instagram or Facebook will have a shimmer effect that differentiates them from regular posts. Meta doesn’t apply any fees for posting digital collectibles.
In June, Meta also began testing NFTs as Instagram stories with its augmented reality platform, SparkAR.
