RTFKT and Nike introduce Genesis AR hoodie
Creator-led organization and now Nike affiliate RTFKT announces this week’s launch of the ‘RTFKT x Nike AR Genesis Hoodie.’
Sportswear giant Nike acquired RTFKT in December 2021 for an undisclosed sum. In April, the companies revealed the upcoming release of AR wearables.
Coming on July 21, the ‘RTFKT x Nike AR Genesis Hoodie’ will feature a wearable AR hoodie. The garment comes with a near-field communication chip and can be tracked using augmented reality. Lucky owners will receive NFTs and physical products so that the hoodies can be worn both by Clone X avatars and their holders in real life.
Private mint starts on July 21 and will be first open to Clone X and RTFKT x Nike Dunks Genesis CryptoKicks holders. However, RTFKT communicated that the mint would be held in a ‘first come, first serve’ mode, so the company does not guarantee the supply of hoodies for everyone. As a side note, Nike and RTFKT have not yet announced the item’s price.
“We haven’t seen a Web2 brand come in the Web3 space in an efficient way. Some people said it would lead to the death of RTFKT or slow us down, now that we are part of a huge global corporation,” says Steven Vasilev, co-founder of RTFKT.
RTFKT focuses on NFT, blockchain, and AR. The company is most known for its digital sneakers and NFT project CloneX. The latter recently introduced new utilities for holders of the collection, including full commercial rights for the avatars. Clone X holders can unlock their 3D files in different formats to be used in Unreal Engine and Unity.
The current floor price of the Clone X collection is 11.5 ETH (approximately $17,250 at the time of writing), with 220.5K ETH of volume traded.
