Disney’s new AI could easily change an actor’s age
In Brief
FRAN, a new AI technology from Disney that enables TV and movie creators to make actors appear older or younger
Disney has always been at the cutting edge of technology, and its latest innovation is no exception. Disney’s new AI technology can easily change an actor’s age, making them look younger or older as needed. This may be a game-changer for the entertainment industry, and it will undoubtedly have a major impact on how movies are made in the future.
The creators of this technology, known as FRAN, claim that it would enable TV and movie makers to age or younger performers using an automated process that will be less expensive and labor-intensive than any of the other techniques.
Disney researchers used StyleGAN2 to generate hundreds of instances of artificially aged faces spanning in age from 18 to 85 in order to create the FRAN.
FRAN applied the aging concepts to a real actor in motion, frame per frame, using these training data to understand the broad principles of how a person’s appearance evolves with age.
The possibilities are endless with this new technology. For example, an actor could play a character at different stages of their life, or a movie could be made with a completely different cast than originally planned. This new AI could easily change the way we make movies, and it will be interesting to see how it is used in the future.
The use of FRAN will be prevalent in upcoming Disney products.
