American rapper Ja Rule releases exclusive music for “Black is Beautiful” NFT collection
Legendary American rapper and entrepreneur Ja Rule teases exclusive singles for his “Black is Beautiful” NFT collection. In the span of his 25-year career, the artist has released four multi-platinum albums and numerous well-known singles. This time, Ja Rule plans to airdrop NFT holders several never-heard-before songs.
The rapper is not new to non-fungible tokens and blockchain. His personal NFT collection features Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shot collectible cards. Ja Rule and his business partner Herb Rice have founded an NFT platform dubbed “The Painted House,” which aims to educate people of color on the blockchain, crypto, and non-fungible token technology.
In June, The Painted House partnered with an NFT launchpad platform House of First, to release the “Black is Beautiful” NFT collection. A percentage of the revenue from NFT sales goes towards historically Black colleges and universities. Ten percent of primary sales are split between five HBCUs: Hampton, Jackson State, Morehouse, Morgan State, and Spelman. Additionally, 10% of secondary sales will be donated to a selected HBCU impact fund.
“Black is Beautiful” features 1,000 one-of-one artworks by illustrator Nick Davis. NFTs will grant holders access to exclusive content and other perks, including unreleased music by Ja Rule.
“I’m working on a project right now for the Black is Beautiful holders. They’re gonna get some exclusive new music. They’ll get to own a piece of the project that we’re working on right now. That’s the beauty of NFTs. You can do these types of airdrops and these types of thank yous to your community for being a part of the project and supporting you in that way. So it’s really cool to be able to do that. I’m looking forward to releasing the project very soon,”
Ja Rule told HipHopDX.
