a16z Games Launches a Gaming Startup School, Speedrun
In Brief
a16z Games announced the launch of Speedrun, a gaming startup school.
Interested teams can apply through April 21.
Leading tech-focused VC firm Andreessen Horowitz’s gaming division has announced the launch of its gaming startup school, “Speedrun.” The program is aimed at gaming founders who are interested in starting a company or are already building one.
The six-week startup school will include one-on-one and group office hours, as well as talks with gaming experts. Among the speakers are Eros Resmini, the ex-CMO at Discord; the former Vice President at Blizzard Entertainment, Josh Lu; the founder of Twitch, Kevin Lin; and Ben Feder, the former President of Tencent.
The program covers such topics as business, AI, UGC, web3, and AR/VR. Participants will learn how to build and launch a game, hire a team, fundraise, and conduct live operations.
Aspiring participants must have an idea of what they would like to develop and demonstrate the ability to do it.
Interested teams can apply through April 21. The finalists’ interviews will take place from April 24 to 28, and following this, the program will kick off in May. Notably, the program will start with an IRL event, and a16z will fly successful candidates out to San Francisco and Los Angeles. The demo days are scheduled for June 5 to 9.
It’s worth noting that in October 2022, Andreessen Horowitz also launched a Crypto Startup School. The program, which took off in March this year, includes mentorship from leading founders and networking opportunities. In addition, each participating company received a $500,000 investment in exchange for 7% equity and other standard rights.
